Museum Month Feb 1-28
Presented by Macy’s, San Diego Museum Month invites everyone to enjoy half-off entry fees at 40+ museums throughout the county for the all of February.The savings encourages locals and visitors to explore a variety of arts, culture and science-oriented destinations. From Oceanside Museum of Art down to the Tijuana Estuary, there are ample opportunities for “edutainment.” Museum Month passes may be picked up starting February 1 at any of Macy’s 14 locations in the San Diego Area, Temecula, and Imperial Valley. The passes are free to obtain while supplies last. With a pass, up to four visitors can gain admission to any of the more than 40 participating museums for half-price. Use the pass all month long.

Black Violin  Feb 1
Virtuoso violinists Wil B. and Kev Marcus meld highbrow and pop culture through a fusion of classical, jazz, hip-hop, blues, and R & B. Joining the classically-trained violinists is turntable wiz DJ TK; together the trio smashes musical stereotypes and enthralls lovers of Bach and Beyoncé alike.

The San Diego Fermentation Festival brings together the diverse assortment fermented foods and beverages that Southern California has to offer. A variety of informative workshops and presentations share the art and science of fermentation with guests, who can learn about crafting a diverse and nutritious selection of fermented products including drinks, meals, sides and desserts.

Love Your Wetlands Day  Feb 4
1th annual event. Join the San Diego Audubon Society and the UC Natural Reserve System for a celebration of our local wetlands. At Kendall-Frost Marsh, 2055 Pacific Beach Drive, with a series of interactive and fun educational activities, animal presentations, and talks about marsh conservation. Ends with a raffle for participants. This is also the only day of the year that the Kendall-Frost Marsh is open to the public.

Burn Run 5K Feb 4
Benefiting the Burn Institute. Among children aged four and under, scald injuries are most prevalent burn injury. Prevention of scalds is always preferable to treatment and can be accomplished through simple changes in behavior and the home environment. Safety tips and information will be available to all participants.

SlowSD: Festival of Slow Music Feb 9-12
Violinist Erik Carlson, an assistant professor at UC San Diego, will present SlowSD, a four-day festival of slow music. The festival will begin at midnight on February 9, 2017 and last through February 12.

San Diego Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair Feb 11-12
The San Diego Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair is a celebration to kick off the lunar New Year and enjoy the many rich flavors of China. Guests can browse a wide selection of cultural gifts and cuisine. There are also performances in Chinese music, dance, qigong and other cultural arts.

Paw Walk Feb 18
5K Paw Walk in San Diego Botanic Garden Saturday, February 18 9 am – 1 pm The San Diego Botanic Garden is teaming up with the Rancho Coastal Humane Society for our annual “5K Paw Walk in the Garden.” Both organizations will be benefiting from this event. Participants will follow a 5K walk through the 37 acre garden with their dog/s in tow.

So Cal meets the French Quarter of NOLA at the Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras Parade & Celebration in San Diego, California. The one-day block party boasts live musical performances from nationally touring acts, DJs, a bigger-than-life parade, acrobatic circus performers, fire dancers, graffiti artists, stilt walkers and a giant 50-foot puppet.

Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas Thru Dec 26
Once again the Green Meanie will try to ruin the holiday season for the citizens of Whoville. This is the Globe’s 18th staging. This time, will he succeed? James Vasquez directs.

Legoland Snow Days Thru Jan 1
Thousands of Legos come together to create a massive 30-ft. tall Christmas tree decorated with hundreds of Lego ornaments, and a fireworks show lights up the sky select nights during December. In addition, guests can enjoy the Let It Snow musical and life-size Lego displays of Santa and his reindeer.

Skating by the Sea Thru Jan 2
Skating by the Sea returns to Hotel del Coronado for the 12th year from Thanksgiving Day through January 2. This ice rink is located seaside on Windsor Lawn and features views of the Pacific and Coronado beach. The Del’s iconic Victorian Building, adorned with thousands of white lights, provides a visual backdrop. Skating is $25 per person, and ice skate rentals are free.

Fantasy on Ice Thru Jan 3
The old Horton Plaza ice-skating rink has been permanently relocated to a new Liberty Station location. The venue has changed, but the event continues to benefit the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital. And parking is not only plentiful, it’s free.

Jungle Bells Dec 2 – Jan 2
A chance to see exotic animals at night makes an evening visit worth a trip, and through January 2 the zoo is also decked out with holiday lights and special performances. Expect music, animal-themed Christmas tales, and Santa holding court in an igloo while his elves bounce on a trampoline. Tying the wacky vibe together is the large, tropical toog tree in the zoo’s Front Plaza, outfitted with a musical light display featuring over 1000 bulbs.

December Nights Dec 2-3
Balboa Park December Nights, the nation’s premier holiday festival, will take place for the 39th consecutive year on Friday, December 2 from 3-11pm and Saturday, December, 3 from noon-11pm. Friends, families and the community are invited to come together for festive fun, food and attractions throughout the park, including complimentary admission to Balboa Park museums from 5-9pm.

Holiday Run 5K  Dec 3
Run, dance, or walk your way trough a complete 5K obstacle course with snow, a DJ, and colorful costumes to motivate you. Raise money and collect toys for Toy’s for Tots and other charities.

Santa Paws MEGA Adoption Event Dec 3
Join the San Diego Animal Support Foundation for the 3rd Annual Santa Paws MEGA Adoption Event where approximately 20 local nonprofit rescues and shelters will be attending with more than 200 adoptable dogs. There will even be cats & bunnies!

Garden of Lights Dec 3-23 & 26-30
After the sun goes down in December, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland.More than 125,000 sparkling lights illuminate the flora of this fantastic 37-acre urban oasis each evening from 5 – 9 pm for a magical holiday experience.

SoNo Fest and Chili Cook-off  Dec 4
$20 gets you a handmade ceramic bowl and five 2 oz. restaurant chili tastes. Or bring your own bowl and buy chili tastes for $15. Local brewers represent in the beer garden. Also featuring wine from Fallbrook Winery. Shop handmade goods from more than 30 local vendors.

San Diego Bay Parade of Lights Dec 11 & 18
The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is a time-honored holiday tradition brought to San Diego by the boating community. Continuing its long-standing San Diego tradition, the 45th annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights promises to dazzle and entertain bayfront crowds during the evenings of December 11 and 18, 2016. Participants in this year’s highly anticipated holiday boat parade will decorate their boats to fit this year’s theme, “It Began with a Roar – San Diego Zoo Celebrates 100 Years.”

Breakfast with Santa Dec 17-18
St. Nick will don his traditional holiday attire to sit down and enjoy breakfast. The morning includes a full breakfast, picture with Santa, face painting, balloon artist, kids’ show, and a gift for kids. Reservations required: 619-738-1627. $25 per person.

San Diego Holiday Half Marathon Dec 18
The 13.1 mile course starts on Penasquitos Drive at the new start lilne in front of the Hotel Karlan (formerly the Doubletree Golf Resort), then travels SW along Carmel Mountain Rd (your only real hill at mile 1.5), along the 56 bike path, and finishes atTorrey Pines State Beach. The race includes a 711-foot net elevation drop along the rolling downhill bike path.

Brewer’s Guild Festival Nov 4-5
14th Annual San Diego Brewers Guild Festival. This two-day event is the official kickoff of San Diego Beer Week. Enjoy samples from more than 60 San Diego County breweries. Raises funds for local charities and the San Diego Brewers Guild.

San Diego Beer Week Nov 4-13
San Diego Beer Week is a ten-day celebration inspiring people to drink local, craft beer, and promote San Diego’s thriving brewing culture with multiple events happening across the county. San Diego is home to more than 100 breweries and has gained an international reputation for brewing award-winning beers. The city’s breweries brought home more medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup than the traditional beer countries of England, Germany, and Belgium combined and won 19 medals at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival.

National Scholastic Surfing Association Competition Nov 5-6
The National Scholastic Surfing Association promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers and is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships, the highest-profile youth surfing event in America.

Surfrider Beach Cleanup: Oceanside  Nov 5
The first Saturday of each Month, the Surfrider Foundation hosts a beach cleanup. Supplies will be provided, but please bring your own reusable bag, bucket, and work gloves if you have them. Meet on the north side of the pier.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Nov 5 – Dec 26
Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a wonderful, whimsical musical based upon the classic Dr. Seuss book. Back for its 18th incredible year, the family favorite features the songs “This Time of Year,” “Santa for a Day” and “Fah Who Doraze,” the delightful carol from the popular animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Celebrate the holidays as the Old Globe Theatre is once again transformed into the snow-covered Whoville, right down to the last can of Who-hash.

Silver Strand Half Marathon & 5k  Nov 13
The Half Marathon and 10 mile course is limited to 5000 participants. The half marathon course is open to runners and walkers. The 10 mile course is open to runners, walkers, skaters, ellipticals/ElliptiGO, hand cycles, and wheelchairs. Both the Half Marathon and 10 mile courses start at Sunset Park in Coronado and end at the Imperial Beach Pier Plaza for the post-race Beach Party.

Join West Coast Paddle Sports for their day-after Thanksgiving SUP paddling event on Mission Bay. Beginners and experienced paddlers welcome, Just bring your standup paddleboard and enjoy some family fun. Cost is a can of soup and a donation: $25 to help support the San Diego Canoe and Kayak Team kids programs. $20 for the youth-only race. At the SDCKT Team Headquarters on Fiesta Island. Registration begins at 8:30.

Participants can sign themselves and two other players up to play in the East County’s official Over the Line tournament for $75. The tournament will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., feature two divisions (Men’s and Women’s League) and will be double-elimination style with no gloves.

For one delicious day, local restaurants across San Diego will participate in Susan G. Komen San Diego’s Dine Out for the Cure®. It’s simple. Eat at a participating restaurant and you’ll help San Diego breast cancer patients become breast cancer survivors. For every dollar you spend, anywhere from 10-25% of the restaurant’s profits for the day will go to Komen San Diego.

San Diego Fire Rescue 5K & Kids Run  Oct 8
To kick off Fire Prevention Week, the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation is holding a 5K Run/Walk & Kids Run on October 8, 2016. The run not only allows San Diegans to have fun running with local firefighters but it also raises much needed funds for the foundation. The money helps support their mission of providing enhanced equipment, training, and to support their community education program.
