Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch Thru May 13
This SoCal attraction will open its doors with new landscaping and renovations. See the display gardens developed by the San Diego Master Gardeners, get lost in the fragrant sweet pea maze with new pathways, learn about composting and gardening in the new greenhouses that will offer classes for local elementary students and residents.
Grunion Run Times 2018 Throughout May
The times given for each date reflect the probable two-hour interval during which a spawning run may occur. The second hour is usually better. The best runs normally occur on the second and third nights of a four-night period. March, June, July, and August, grunion can be harvested by hand only. Those 16 years of age and older need a California Fishing License. The runs during the months of April and May are observation only, and grunion cannot be harvested. Where the forecast run starts at or after midnight, the date of the previous evening is shown. Be sure to look on the website for dates and times!

The challenging and unique courses will take you out on the Lake Poway Trail through the foothills around the lake near Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. The 5K is designed to let you pick your pace. Enjoy it as an elite trail runner, as a challenging family run or simply a gorgeous morning nature hike.
Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo May 4-6
The 35th Annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo will transform the historic Old Town area into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration north of the border. This weekend celebration attracts over 100,000 people over the course of three days with its bustling mercado, non-stop music and live entertainment, lucha libre wrestling, and a huge display of lowriders and other autos.

COSTUME-CON 36 May 11-14
Costume-Con is an international convention that has been devoted to costuming of all kinds since 1983 – welcoming costume designers, cosplayers, historical reenactors, doll dressmakers, science fiction enthusiasts, fantasy, fans, and more. Themed-marketplace; vendors; panels, workshops, costume competitions; food. This year’s theme is “Ports of Call”.
North Park Festival of Arts May 12
North Park Main Street announces this year’s San Diego County Credit Union Festival of Arts in North Park, a free festival that celebrates the artistic craftsmanship of the community, from unconventional street art to live musical talent. This celebration of the historic and eclectic North Park neighborhood attracts more than 40,000 attendees from around San Diego and beyond. There is something for all ages at this nine square block festival including interactive exhibits, local makers, fine art, and an array of live music along North Park’s busy University Avenue.
Ocean Beach Kite Festival May 12
It’s our 70th Annual Kite Festival. We’ll have kite building and decorating, prizes, professional kite flier, kite demonstrations and games, crafters, community organizations, gourmet food, carnival activities, and live music.
Chocolate Festival May 12
Chocolate Festival 2018 Saturday, May 12 10 am – 4 pm Spend the Saturday before Mother’s Day at San Diego Botanic Garden’s famous Chocolate Festival! Enjoy dozens of delectable chocolate tastings, demonstrations, a chocolate fountain, and more. This family-friendly event also features lots of children’s activities and a variety of Mother’s Day gifts. “Tasting” tickets will be sold on site. Cost: Free with paid admission or membership. Tasting tickets are a $1 for 1 tasting ticket. Tasting tickets will be sold at the event. Vendors will be providing tasting items ranging from 1-3 tickets in most cases.
Coyote Music Festival May 12
The 10th Annual Coyote Music Festival takes place on the Cuyamaca College Grand Lawn. This entirely student-run festival provides the community with free music and culminates a semester for students studying music, technology, recording and business.
Bowling for Rhinos 2018 May 19
Bowling for Rhinos is a national bowl-a-thon fundraising event geared towards assisting rhino conservation in Kenya and Indonesia. 100% of all funds go directly to in situ conservation projects, conserving four species of rhinos, their habitats, and hundreds of other endangered plants and animals and cheetah conservation in Kenya. Each year, the American Association of Zoo Keepers San Diego Chapter hosts a bowl-a-thon to raise money for rhino conservation and awareness.
Farm Animal Encounter May 25
Join San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum on the last Friday of every month and meet some farm animals. The hands-on workshop includes a special storytime, meeting animals, and a themed craft or activity. Each of the workshops has a different theme and features different farm animals.
Vista Strawberry Festival May 27
Vista was once the “Strawberry Capital of the World”! San Diego County’s only celebration of the strawberry. Live entertainment on multiple stages, bands, local craft brews in the beer garden, food, carnival rides, contests, 400 vendors that include strawberry desserts, food, crafts. Contests include Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Costume, Strawberry Idol, Pie-Eating.
