Where the West Is Fun at the 2017 San Diego County Fair offers a stampede of fun, food, and entertainment this year, from June 2 through July 4, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The fair is closed the first four Mondays and the first three Tuesdays.
Scripps Ranch Old Pros 10K/2-Mile Runs, Bike Rides July 4
The event offers running and cycling options for different age and skill levels. You can choose between a 10K Road Race, 2-mile Fun Run, or a 12-mile bike ride, 28-mile bike ride, or a 50-mile bike ride. Proceeds benefit community athletic programs and scholarships for local high school students.

The multi-date event is held at the Harry Griffen Park amphitheater and showcases eclectic regional acts and ensembles from such genres as New Orleans-style brass bands, ’70s rock and modern jazz, just to name a few.
Over-the-Line (OTL) Tournament July 8-9 and July 15-16
A San Diego summertime tradition, Over-the-Line (OTC), is hosted over the course of two weekends every July at Fiesta Island. Put on by the Old Mission Bay Athletic Club (OMBAC), the annual tournament typically gathers approximately 1,200 teams from around the world to play Over-the-Line, a bat and ball sport first played in Mission Beach in the 1950s. Teams dress up in wacky costumes and bring tents, chairs, beer and hilarious signs to the beach for the carefree, daytime tournament.
San Diego Pride July 14-16
The annual San Diego LGBT Pride Parade colors the streets of Hillcrest in July, with the parade starting at the Hillcrest Pride Flag at University Avenue and Normal Street. The 1.1-mile route proceeds west on University Avenue, turns south on 6th, left onto Balboa Drive and ends at Laurel Street. Pride weekend also features live music acts, a street festival, a Pride 5K run and other fun events in the hip Hillcrest community.
Little Italy Summer Film Festival July 17 – Aug 26
Little Italy hosts the Little Italy Summer Film Festival in collaboration with Cinema Little Italy, a series of Italian films with English subtitles. Screenings are every Saturday night in Little Italy’s Amici Park outdoor amphitheater starting at 8:00 p.m. in mid-June through August (located at the corner of State and Date Streets). The entry fee is a $5 donation.
Opening Day July 19
More than 40,000 race fans are expected to attend what’s defined as one of the most fabulous, fashionable and fun festivities in the west – Opening Day at Del Mar. This day is not only about big bets and fast horses, but celebrating the season in style. Fashion-minded guests may participate in Del Mar’s annual tradition, the Opening Day Hats Contest where entrants compete for cash prizes and judged on creativity and style.
San Diego Comic-Con International July 20-25
A signature San Diego event, the enormous pop culture spectacular returns to the San Diego Convention Center in 2017 with celebrity panels, elaborate costumes, sneak peek screenings, exhibits and events galore. As always, Comic-Con badges are hard to come by and the event will sell out. On the bright side, many interactive Comic-Con events are hosted outside the Convention Center, too, as downtown San Diego transforms into a lively hub for fanboys and fangirls of all ages.
Heroes Brew Festival 2017 July 22
The Heroes Brew Festival in San Diego, California, melds the beloved worlds of craft beer and comic book cosplay to create a one-of-a-kind event. The one-day festival is held during the world-class pop culture and comic convention San Diego Comic Con and offers a taste of Southern California’s microbreweries.
