Artists from San Diego to Redondo Beach come out for First Friday Art Walk happening in the galleries and theatres of Oceanside with vibrant arts, performances, music, poetry,activities, food, and fun for all ages, all free. This month’s theme is “Be Mine.”



Cheesemaking Fundamentals Feb 6
Learn the fundamental processes behind fresh cheesemaking as well as techniques for making pressed cheeses and aged cheeses such as cheddar, gouda, and camembert.


Outrigger Canoe Racing Feb 6
Join Kai Elua Outrigger Canoe Club at their free recreational practices from now through March. If you are new to paddling, then the recreational practices provide an opportunity for you to try outrigger canoe paddling. Sessions are generally an hour and a half long, and the hosts provide the paddles and instruction.

Hearts for Hope 5k Run/Walk Feb 6
Annual 5k run/walk plus food, music, games, prizes, kids’ zone and activities. Proceeds benefit families of children challenged by life-threatening illnesses.

Hungry Dog Dash Feb 7
5K run/walk benefiting the Point Loma High School men’s and women’s cross country teams. A morning of fitness and fun with music, opportunity drawings, children’s activities, vendor village, food trucks.

Eleventh annual Vietnamese Tet Lunar New Year Festival promises entertainment including Asian-themed dancers, traditional and contemporary singers and musicians, martial artists, magicians, soccer and volleyball tournaments, Chinese chess tournament, traditional cultural center, Vietnamese traditional dress (áo dài) fashion show, dancing contests, Asian-Pacific dance troupes, special foods. Lion and dragon dance performances throughout festival.

Tons of pet-friendly exhibitors and rescue groups; live demonstrations in obedience training, pet care, and activism; great giveaways and prizes; discounts on pet products, talent, and costume contests; and retailers.

Cupid’s Cleanup Feb 13
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to show your loved ones just how much you care about them. Why not do the same for the environment? Volunteers will meet behind Benchmark Brewing Company and then clean up surrounding streets and the San Diego River. Those over 21 can stick around after the cleanup for an after-party.

Symphology: The Science of Sound Feb 20
The San Diego Symphony Orchestra is performing a series of four Family Festival concerts designed to introduce children 5-12 to the magic, science, and wonder of classical music. This edition features Symphology: The Science of Sound. From the sound a bow makes to the beating of a drum, there are countless ways musicians make music. But how does it happen? Conductor Sameer Patel explains what makes a flute tweet and a horn toot and how it all comes together through the sounds and science of a symphony. Children are free with adult tickets.


Silver Bay Kennel Club Dog Show Feb 27-28
The Silver Bay Kennel Club holds the reputation as the longest running dog show in San Diego County. This is an American Kennel Club sanctioned two-day all breed dog show featuring 150 breeds and over 1800 dogs each day of the show.
